This is just a quick little Excel tip in response to a question received from a site member. Essentially, I will show you how to transpose data arranged in a column to a row or vice versa.
If your data is arranged like this: ![]()
and you would like to arrange it like this: ![]()
Simply select the entries you would like to transpose and press Ctrl+C on your keyboard to copy.
Right-click on the cell where you would like to paste the transposed data. I recommend you use an empty cell to paste into. In this case, I will paste into cell C1 (1st row, third column). From the contextual menu that pops up, select “Paste Special…”…
The Paste Special window appears. Simply check the “Transpose” option on the bottom right and click “OK”. ![]()
Repeat these steps for all your data ranges. Once you are done, you can simply delete the columns containing data arranged vertically by right-clicking on the column header to delete (A, B, C, etc…) and choose “Delete” from the contextual menu. ![]()
To adjust your column widths to accommodate the widest entries in each, simply double-click the seam between column headings.
