Allway Sync is a free synchronization software that uses an innovative algorithm to sync your files and folders.
In our digital lives, we need to keep track of all our files that are usually kept on USB stick, external drives and even online repositories such as X-drives. Having all those files in different locations, we can easily lose track of our file whereabouts and version.
Allway Sync is brought to us by Usov Labs, a small company based in Florida and it can be downloaded from the Allway Sync Homepage in several languages such as English, French, Spanish and Italian (as of this writing).
Why would I need this? Windows can sync files too.
That’s true, but with Allway Sync you have so many more options.
Ok, you got my attention what can it do?
After you’ve set up the folders you want to sync the software will analyze both the source folder and the target folder for differences. When this is complete it will present you with a full report of which files need to be synced and in which direction the sync will go. If there are new files the report, it will include those too! (Now this is fun!) You can also choose to ignore certain files or folders.
Another great feature is support for Network and Internet sync. That’s right! You can either sync all your files by entering the UNC name and share of the machine you want to sync to or you can sync to an FTP server on the internet. This is great if you have a web server that you can connect to through FTP. You can do a one-way sync and do a backup of only the files that have changed since the last backup. No more waiting for hours for the backup to complete.
It also supports multiple way sync. When you have repositories of files that you wish to have on multiple machines at once without having to worry where the latest files are located, you can setup Allway Sync to check all the machines that have these files and the latest file version will be copied to all the machines.
You can also setup multiple jobs and start/stop/configure each one individually. Also, you don’t need to worry about which file system various machines are using as Allway Sync supports virtually all file systems including SAMBA, X-Drive and Netware.
That’s all fine and dandy but can it run on my system?
Well it needs a Windows operating system to run (any version will do). Unfortunately it is not currently available for Linux and Mac users. It is however available as a portable edition (can run from an external hard disk or USB key) either in portable app format or U3.
Do I need to pay for all these features?
Allway Sync is free for personal use if you are planning to use it in commercial, business, government or military institutions you must purchase a Pro licence.
Download & Installation:
Go to www.allwaysync.com.
On the Allway Sync Homepage click on “Download” in the left menu.
Click the “Download” button.
Save the file to your hard disk. (Remember where it is saved you will need to find it later!)
Double click on the file to start the Setup Wizard. One or two security warning may pop up depending on your Windows version. You can safely ignore them.
On the welcome screen click “Next” to continue.
Read the licence agreement. If you agree click “I accept the agreement” and then click “Next” continue.
Choose where you wish to install the program (The default location is fine). Click “Next” to continue.
Choose whether you want an icon for all users on your computer or just for yourself. Click “Next” to continue.
The installation takes only a minute or two, when it is done click “Finish”.
Enjoy!
