imageNow that you have VirtualBox installed and configured on your host PC, you will likely want to install a virtual machine with a guest Operating System and I can’t think of a better one to start with than Ubuntu Linux 10.10. If you haven't installed VirtualBox yet, start by reading: Software Utilities - How to download and install VirtuallBox.  Before we can install Ubuntu on our virtual machine, we first need to download it.

To download the latest version of Ubuntu, make your way to the Ubuntu Download page, select the appropriate version and click the “Download” button. The download will clock in at ~690MB and, depending on your Internet connection, can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more.

The downloaded file will be in .ISO format and will need to either be burned to a blank CD or mounted in a Virtual Disc program. For .ISO burning duties, I like to use the free and extremely capable ImgBurn. To find out more about ImgBurn please visit www.imgburn.com. On the other hand, I never burn a CD unless necessary and prefer to use a freeware Virtual CD/DVD drive called MagicDisc. To find out more about MagicDisc, how to install and use it, read “Software Utilities: MagicDisc Virtual CD/DVD”.
