While setting up this site, I wanted to add blog functionality so that I could post tutorials and articles straight from my desktop. As I am using Joomla 1.5 CMS, which doesn’t have native blogging integrated, I hunted around for an extension that would solve this little setback. I finally found and settled on Movable Type API: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/news-production/blog/3831.
It installed flawlessly and integrated seamlessly with Windows Live Writer: http://download.live.com/writer.
I was chugging happily along, posting articles and tutorials and tweaking the site. At one point I decided I’d like to add a bookmarking utility so that visitors could bookmark their favorite tutorials and articles using their service of choice (ie Facebook, Delicious, etc.). Again, I went hunting for an extension to accomplish this. I found DDRFS: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/social-web/social-bookmarking/4296.
This little extension did everything I wanted. However, I started getting this error:
The response to the metaWeblog.newPost method received from the blog server was invalid: Invalid response document returned from XmlRpc server
when trying to post from Live Writer to the site.
I scoured the Internet for a solution, all of which required some modification of .htaccess files or xmlrpc.php files and none of which were specifically for Movable Type or Joomla – as most bloggers use Wordpress or something like it.
As it turns out, this error occurs when attempting to publish an article with images. To correct the issue, you will need to configure the proper settings in Windows Live Writer to use FTP to handle your image transfers.
To read the tutorial on how to do this or how to configure Windows Live Writer to work with your Joomla site, read: Joomla – How to setup Windows Live Writer
Hope this helps!
