How to configure GMX Mail Collector to connect to your existing email accounts.
1. Login to your GMX account. If you haven’t created your account yet, read : GMX – Creating your free email account.
2. From the left hand menu, click “Mail Collector”. ![]()
3. If you have an existing GMail, Yahoo!Mail or Hotmail account, simply choose your service from the email provider list and click the "Continue" button. If you are trying to configure an ISP email account (the one provided with your Internet service such as sympatico or cogeco) select "Other provider" and click "Continue". ![]()
4. Type in your email address and password and click “Continue”. If you are configuring an ISP email account you will require POP3 and SMTP settings for that specific account. If you are unsure what these might be, you can find this information on your ISP contract or from your ISP’s Web site or try this online directory - Answers That Work – ISP which has a fairly complete and up to date directory of most ISPs and their POP3/SMTP server settings. ![]()
6. If you have more than one account to set up, click "Setup Additional Account". Otherwise, click "Finish". ![]()
7. It can take several minutes for GMX to collect all your existing mail. Your messages will appear in folders named after your email accounts. ![]()
8. Mail Collector does not delete original messages in your other accounts – it simply copies them to your GMX account. Likewise, if you delete, sort, read or reply to your messages through GMX, these actions are not reflected in your host accounts.
9. When composing a new message or replying to a message, you can choose from which account to send your message. Simply click on the drop-down list in the “From” field and select which address to use.
10. If you would like to create additional GMX email addresses under your main account (say one for business, one for an organization, one for friends and a separate one for family – which makes it easier in the long run to filter and sort your messages), click on the “Settings” button on the upper right-hand side. From the window that appears, click “Add GMX E-Mail”. Click “Create New E-Mail Address” and type in your desired address. Click “Check” to verify if it’s available and if it is, click “Create”(see second photo). Once you are done, click “OK”.
